This was a wedding present for our good friends, Sheryll and Dan. It's made with black walnut and ash. Breakfast in bed? ;-)

Cherry Wall Unit

The biggest challenge of this built-in wall unit was the installation. Built for a hundred-year-old house, scribing for a perfect fit took days.

Everyone loves a good wall unit tho - for it really does transform the entire space!

Humpbacks Inspired Jewelry Box

We saw the most amazing display of whale behavior in Alaska - breaching, lob-tailing, pec-slapping . When we were finishing this jewelry box, we incorporated that into the pulls!

Made with walnut, maple, and ebony.

Helen's Dresser

This has got to be the most complicated piece of furniture we have ever built! It boasts 144 mortises, a maze-like web frame for the drawers, frame and panel sides, tapered legs, as well as stained espresso finish (just testing for the correct color took a week)! Needless to say, Helen is a very lucky girl for we will probably never make another dresser again!

Made with walnut and mahogany.

Liquor Cabinet

Since we made a home for our games, we decided that our liquor needs a home as well! Granted, this side cabinet may be used for dishes and such . . . but what's the fun in that? Glass of port, anyone? ;)

Butternut and Walnut Box

Another box made with butternut and walnut - we added ebony pulls!

Mah Jong Anyone?

Didn't we tell you that we loved games? Here is one you must learn to play if you haven't already! I would reckon that it's the most played game in the world - considering that it's the most popular game amongst the Chinese . . . ;-)

Made with Butternut and Walnut.

The Beginning of Our Work Bench

One simply can't DO woodworking without a proper workbench! Here is 1/2 of ours - we have since constructed a tool cabinet in the space between the legs. Will take another photo to share soon!

Made with heavy duty ash

Game Center

We love games! From cards games such as Canasta and Wizard to board games such as Acquire and Risk . . . and everything in between . . . Scrabble, Cribbage, Mah Jong, etc. etc. So we made a cabinet so our games will have a home!

Made with black walnut and maple.

Blanket Chest

Made with mahogany - one of our favorite species of wood!

Hello!

After starting a blog on Hayley's glass, metal and jewelry, envisionsf, we have decided to put one together for us. It took much ado to finally settle on a name. You won't believe how impossible it is to find one that's still available!

Riftsawn! For those of you who are not woodworkers, you may never have heard of riftsawn. There are a variety of ways a piece of lumber can be cut from a log of wood - plainsawn, quartersawn, and riftsawn. Furniture made out of riftsawn lumber has a uniform appearance due to the similarity of grain patterns among different boards. Unfortunately due to the poor yield of the rift-sawing method with its many wedge-shaped scraps, most lumber is either plainsawn or quartersawn. The following diagram illustrates the cross section of a riftsawn log.
